-----------------
2 August 2013 - DCS News Update

DCS Open Beta Testing

As DCS World ever increases in complexity and scope, along with a continued expansion of new modules, the testing task has reached the point where we cannot expect our internal and external test teams to catch all the problems in a reasonable amount of time. As such, starting with DCS 1.2.6 we will first be releasing new DCS versions as open beta. Our team and the external testers will be closely monitoring reports and entering valid bugs into our bug tracking database. We will ask reports only be submitted for new problems that did not exist in the prior version. We sincerely hope this will improve the quality of the final version.

DCS World on Steam

Later today, DCS World and our current modules will be available on Steam with a 10% discount. These include:
DCS: A-10C Warthog
DCS: Black Shark 2
DCS: Combined Arms
DCS: P-51D Mustang
Su-25: DCS Flaming Cliffs
We plan to release A-10A: DCS Flaming Cliffs for Steam on 16 August 2013.

The Steam version of DCS World is unique in that all DLC purchases through it will direct users to the Steam store. As such, the updates for Steam products works a bit different. We have set up 'semi-automatic' updating for the Steam version - the updates themselves will be delivered by the Steam.

We do not believe it is possible to move DCS products purchased outside of Steam into Steam.

New Weapon Models

Today we have images of two new weapon models for DCS World. The GBU-31(V)3/B and an updated UPK-23 gun pod.

Re: DCS: Updates....

These past two weeks I've been in a mad dash to get the model ready for texturing. Another member of our team will be unwrapping it and fixing material shader settings, etc. I actually finished last week, and used the extra time I had to redo a few areas and add detail.

According to Model Viewer, I managed to get the model down to 160,000 triangles +/- a few hundred. ED's new Su-27 is at 173K, so there is some room for improvement!

I started working on the damage model last week. I needed to sift through the old meshes and properly organize them. It's complete, but our team has a few changes that need to be made. Once that is done, I'll resume the damage model.

In the meantime, I finally dug my way through redoing the wings. There were some serious poly issues I felt needed to be fixed. Below shows the new wing on the right. All nice and smooth now! Yep, that means I had to remake the landing lights, flaps, ailerons, and gear doors too. haha. I redid a few bits on the wings' attachments too, to include the lights, sensors, actuators covers, etc.

A few last things on my To-Do List was to add more detail to the pylons. The bumps you see is what was missing. I planned on using Normal Maps to create it, but it wouldn't look right. I imported the pilot and ejection seat as well, so time can be saved unwrapping and texturing. Unwrapping a humanoid is no easy task anyways!

Nose cone's shading problem was fixed adding more segments. Usually using long quads in a cone can yield some blocky looking edges, even after a proper smoothing group is applied. In the cockpit I used a spline to recreate a deformed pipe too.

Hopefully the next update will be in a new thread featuring the texturing!

Hello all,

we are sorry for the long radio silence and we are aware that you all are anxious to see some progress. I'm just checking in to tell you that we are in very crucial steps of development and we hope to show you something very exciting as soon as we are a bit further down the road.
We are very thankful for the strong community here and we are also very thankful for the support you guys have shown us.

Stay safe,

P.S.: does anyone know at which level or postcount my signature and my profile picture are shown? Since I have not received the 3rd Party Developer title yet.

Re: DCS: Updates....

Se ha desvelado el asunto (T-6 Texan II añadido a la lista de RAZBAM)

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1 ... stcount=16
Guys, there are no civilian aircraft in the pipeline, and least not from us, Jose is doing some civilian aircraft for our FSX production line. He is jumping into DCS with a T-6 Texan II trainer.Jose will create the mesh and all what´s involved with it and our coding team will put it into DCS.This development will be done at Jose´s own pace and you´ll see updates as soon as he gets stuff done. Why a T-6 Texan II you´ll say?, well since we are doing to the Navy a T-2 for carrier ops (and learning the ropes into DCS development) we are using the Texan II to the very same purpose to the USAF/Other Air Forces and at the same time to learn more into MFD´s development in DCS, which will lead us to higher performance aircraft, like the F-15E and Harrier and such. It´s all a learning process, we are taking advantage of what we have done already, and we want a steady flow.BTW, questions regarding this model should be directed towards joanvalley (Jose Valdez) which is very eager to answer them.He is project creator and also it´s manager.
Best regards
Prowler

IRIS Facebook:

- DCS Update - 9th August 2013

It's been a productive few months on the DCS side, slow but steady coding for the most part between other commitments. The news though is positive.

Over the last year we've been working hard to learn new skills in terms of DCS development. We admit that coming from another platform, it's been hard work learning not just how the DCS environment works, but also how to code, model and work behind the scenes with a brand new product platform.

However, we haven't taken the journey alone, we've been surrounded by support from the ED Team, always there when we need them, and the valued advice from many other 3rd party developers.

We have though, we feel, reached the end of the journey as far as experiments on the BD-5 testbed is concerned. We've determined a number of things on what to do and more importantly, what not to do whilst working on the aircraft. We feel it's time to put that item to bed and focus on one of our core DCS products.

Whilst many of you have seen images of the F-22 & F-14 in DCS in the past, we're in final discussions on which airframe will be the focus for the DCS development team moving forward.

We'll also be advising those interested in developing with us via email in the next few days. Many appplied for beta positions and only a small few were accepted, we'll be expanding that next week and inviting more people to join the dev team whilst keeping it small enough to manage effectively.

We have a wide variety of new positions opening up for this development which we're interviewing for. If you feel you can bring something to the team, I invite you to send a message to us via the 'Contact Us' tab under the IRIS banner at the top of the page.

I look forward to bringing together a bright group of like minded people for this new endeavour!

~David

"Hey why so quiet lately, what are you up to these days??" - Basically a question i've been getting a couple of times, so here's a quick update:

What i've been up to? Well, it's summer! So basically i've just been enjoying my time off work, and of course, been enjoying summer! On the movie front, well... my focus has already shiftet towards making Project 18, and I'm thinking of making a little teaser for that movie already (and no, don't ask questions regarding DCS F-18, or whatever it will be called, as there is no news on that front yet).

If the music I have chosen for the movie is final (which i now believe it is), this movie will be over 9 minutes long, and that is quite long for a promo movie. But trust me when I say this: The music I have chosen is better than anything I've ever done before, and the movie will of course be bigger than Project 10.

Expect lots of epic action and drama, sceenic views, calm sections, thrills, a little speech thrown in there, and maybe even some goosebumps!

Cheers guys and gals!

Re: DCS: Updates....

VAEO Hawk

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1 ... tcount=714
Dev diary update 9th August

Well things have been very slow recently, almost to a full stop.
With the release of 1.2.5. came a change in the way the cockpits talk to the sim, and with that our cockpit code no longer talks to the sim.
Some of us can get in the jet and it looks pretty but nothing at all works. And others of us can't get even get into DCS as the mod seems to make DCS crash.

So...frustrations aside Tango has been working tirelessly to get it working again but at the moment to no avail.
We, along with other 3rd party devs, are working with ED to get things moving again.
As soon as I have more to update you on this situation I'll let you know.

For me, I've had a very busy time with work for the past 2 weeks since coming back from my relaxing 5 days on the beach so not had time to do anything VEAO related, except re-negotiate the Thrustmaster sponsorship contract for the Virtual Red Arrows for the 4th year running. We're in final discussions and hope to get that signed soon.

Which leads me nicely on to Duxford in September...We'll be in TFC's hangar from Friday 6th through to Sunday 8th September with our friends at Virtual Aerobatics.
If you missed the opportunity to come and fly the Hawk last month then you have another chance next month and I'll try and throw a little something from Thrustmaster in for a weekend competition

Have a great weekend guys,
Chris.

9 August 2013 - DCS News Update

Steam News
This past week was a very significant step for the DCS series by offering DCS World and its modules (also known as DLC) on Steam. This has proved a great success and we see this as a very important outlet and expansion for the series. Other titles coming to DCS on Steam soon include:
A-10A: DCS Flaming Cliffs (16 August 2013)
DCS: UH-1H Huey

We are also working with Steam to improve our presence there by: allowing activation of DCS Steam products from key purchase sources other than Steam; enabling Overlay, play time tracking, and achievements; and we hope to take advantage of Steam Workshop for items such as missions and campaigns.

DCS 1.2.5
The team is now focused on completing a final update for DCS version 1.2.5. Once this version is released, we will move on to version 1.2.6 which will center on the release of the Mi-8MTv2 beta.

New Su-25T Cockpit
Work is underway on a new cockpit for the Su-25T that will be of the same standards as the newly updated Flaming Cliffs 3 cockpits, that includes six degrees of freedom (6 DOF) head movement. Once this is complete, we plan on creating updated Su-25T training videos. The attached images are very early Work in Progress (WiP) of the new cockpit in construction.

New Effects
New effect development continues. Today I can share that we are working on engine smoke. Depending on the throttle setting, engine smoke will vary, and each aircraft can have a custom level of smokiness. The attached image is early a WiP.
