Okayyyy... Where to begin.
As most of you are aware from the GWX developmental update sneak peak threads we've posted over the last few months... we have been working on our final release of the Grey Wolves Expansion for SH3.
Only until now, we had referred to it as the "Version 1.04 update."
About three months ago as we experienced a great deal of pain knowing what we could do, but weren't doing out of concern for the size of an 'update' myself and the senior GWX devs basically decided that since this would be our last organized release for SH3... that we would END THE PARTY WITH A BANG!
GWX 1.04 has basically been a thin cover for a final FULL-GENERAL release... GWX 2.0 will not be an 'update' but instead will totally replace all previous GWX material.
In so doing, we were able to reabsorb a lot of the file weight that was being generated by the original 1.04 update. We've been able to revisit large files previously modded by GWX and improve on them further still... without adding more to the total weight in some cases.
After undergoing roughly TEN evolutions from the alpha through beta states, I am happy to announce that development and testing of the GWX 2.0 mod files is COMPLETE and has yielded a stable mod.
Once these core files are placed in an installer by our programmer, the entire package will undergo a final round of testing to ensure it functions as planned.
Assuming all is well following the final installer tests, we hope to release GWX to Subsim.com on a donations only basis for one week on or about December 9th.
Following the one-week donation-only download period, we hope to release GWX 2.0 to the general public on December 16th. (As it so happens, December 16th is the one year anniversary of the initial release of GWX 1.0)
Barring real life disasters and unforseen problems... that is our plan.
I can speak for all of the GWX devs and testing crew here... It has been a very long and difficult road... and we've overcome challenge after challenge. There are few here that know what I mean. Each of them has sacrificed something and/or dealt with personal crisis' during the long fight to see it through.
Every one of them has my heartfelt gratitude.
From the first day of work on the original TGW 1.0 a little over two years ago, to now... GWX 2.0 will be our fourth major release.
Words escape me on how huge this feels for all of us. I know it is hard for users to be patient... but the amount of work that went into it will show. There aren't words that can adequately express the dedication that the developers and testing crew for the GWX 2.0 effort have put into the journey we've shared.
Saludos.
